Ultrasound examinations can be performed relatively quickly. Generally, before the examination, it is advisable to establish venous access and drink plenty of water. During the examination, several methods can be employed to speed up the process, including changing positions, applying pressure with the ultrasound probe, using ultrasound gel, and controlling the examination time.
1. Changing positions: Before the examination, if the patient needs to remain supine, a water bag can be placed above or below the examination site. The gravity of the water bag compresses the retroperitoneal space, creating a dark area in the renal pelvis fluid, facilitating the ultrasound examination. However, this method is not suitable for infants and young children due to its difficulty and the risk of coughing.
2. Applying pressure with the ultrasound probe: The examination site can be coated with a ultrasound gel, and then the ultrasound probe is placed on the surface of the skin. The coupling agent acts as a barrier, preventing air from entering the ultrasound probe and affecting the examination results.
3. Using ultrasound gel: ultrasound gel are commonly used in ultrasound examinations. Spraying the coupling agent on the ultrasound probe allows it to make contact with the skin, preventing the direct entry of air into the ultrasound probe, thus avoiding confusion between ultrasound waves and air and ensuring accurate examination results.
4. Controlling examination time: Normally, ultrasound examinations take 10-20 minutes. Prolonged examination times may lead to the accumulation of gas, which could affect the examination results.
Furthermore, if the lesion site is unclear during the examination, under the guidance of ultrasound doctors, the lesion site can be clarified by increasing the coverage range of the ultrasound probe or extending the duration of ultrasound probe use.
